NEW DECADE OF IMPACT
YWCA of Orange County together with your generosity have accomplished the following in the first two decades of this century. We are proud of:
STEM GIRL CODE / MAKERSPACE: Investment in Our Future
Over 400+ middle school girls from low-income neighborhoods have been learning computer coding, increasing their knowledge about STEM fields, and how technology is used in various careers. In addition, these students are engaged in hands-on classroom and after school STEM projects including a Community Garden growing vegetables free and accessible to neighborhood residents.
ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT: Youth Employment Services & STRIVE Teen
Our Youth Employment Services program provided over 10,000 at-risk youth with employment assistance including resume-building, interview skills, online and in-person job seeking navigational skills, and career training opportunities which resulted in job placement and enrollment in career training programs and post-secondary education. Many YES participants are now involved in their work environments and communities giving back their time and support to economic and social development programs like YES/STRIVE Teens.
EDUCATION: College Scholarships
Adult reentry women and men received 100+ college scholarships sponsored by community donors. Many of our scholarship recipients are single parents/head of households who delayed or interrupted their studies to support their family. These scholarships led them to achieve their academic and professional goals as well as financial stability for their families.
HEALTH: Neighborhood Link to Breast Cancer Screening
Our Neighborhood Link program led over 30,000 medically underserved women in 120 neighborhoods to Breast Cancer screenings and early breast cancer education throughout Orange County. Through this program women who would have gone undiagnosed or diagnosed at a later, more life-threateningstage learned they were cancer free or navigated to further diagnostic exams or treatment. With COVID this program temporarily placed on hold. Your contributions will facilitate new partnerships and ways to create new links women to needed health services.
DIGNITY & SELF CONFIDENCE: Prom Project, Marine Corps Dress Drive & Quinceañera
YWCA-OC gave dignity and self-confidence to over 3,000 teen girls and young women through our Prom Project’s Boutique Days which provided low-income high school girls new and gently donated gowns, shoes, accessories, makeovers and etiquette tips enabling them to participate in Prom, our local communityQuinceañera/Sweet 16 celebration and the Camp Pendleton Marine Ball feeling and looking like the Belle of the Ball. These milestone experiences are memories that will last them a lifetime and inspire/empower them to “play it forward” by giving back to others in time of need.
