THURMOND SCHOLARSHIP
FULLERTON COLLEGE
The Thurmond Scholarship was created more than twenty-five years ago by Ruth Bradley Thurmond for re-entry women attending Fullerton College. Recently, the scholarship was expanded to include women majoring in STEM and women enrolled as English as Second Language students.

Completion of a minimum of 12 units with a 2.0 GPA or higher EACH semester for Fall 2025/Spring 2026 and Fall 2026/Spring 2027

Completion of a minimum of 6 units with a 2.0 GPA or higher EACH semester for Fall 2025/Spring 2026 and Fall 2026/Spring 2027

Because this is not a Fullerton College scholarship,
money awarded is NOT reported to the Financial Aid Office.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION CRITERIA
- Women 24 years or older who are returning to college after being away from the academic world (high school or college) after a 2-year break or longer
- Women 18 years or older majoring in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics)
- Women 18 years or older who are registered as English as a Second Language students
- Demonstration of financial need
- Submission of Unofficial Student Academic Record for verification of courses/major, grades and required number of units
- One current letter of recommendation from an academic counselor, professor, or employer
- Active Gmail account address
- Participation in various ways that the YWCA OC honors scholarship awardees
- Enrollment in required academic courses/units during Fall 2026/Spring 2027 when receiving scholarship funds
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
NOTIFICATION OF SELECTED STUDENTS: Approximately mid-May 2026
DISBURSEMENTS (2 payments): Half for Fall 2026 semester and half for the Spring 2027 semester
NOTE: Students must maintain the same number of units or more for all four semesters (Fall 2025 / Spring 2026 & Fall 2026 / Spring 2027) or risk having the scholarship money reduced or eliminated.

Students must:
